Annual General Meeting and President’s Day 2026

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Wednesday 17 June 11:00–12:30 (GMT+1) at Burlington House, London and online. Please register here, and by Monday 15 June if you wish to attend in person. 

In line with byelaw 5.11, the agenda items include: 

  • Annual reports from the President and Officers 
  • Presentation of the 2025 Annual Accounts 
  • Report the ballot results for new members of Council and Officers 2026-27 
  • Election of Honorary Fellows 
  • Record of the Fellows and Honorary Fellows who have died in the past year 
  • Any other business if required by the Royal Charter, Byelaws and Regulations 

Proxy voting will be permitted in accordance with Regulations. Please contact AGM@geolsoc.org.uk no later than 10 June 2026 to submit your request.

Notification of Officers for 2026/2027 and Treasurer for 2027/2028 

At the AGM, Fellows will be asked to note the following members of Council as Officers for 2026/2027: 

President: Jessica T Smith 

Vice-President: Dr Chiara Maria Petrone (Science), Dr Neil Frewin (Professional Matters), Dr Caroline Gill (Foreign & External Affairs), Prof Dan Le Heron (Publications) 

Treasurer: Dr Keith Myers (Fellows will also be asked to note: Treasurer-Elect Dr Paul Winrow will succeed Dr Keith Myers as Treasurer following the AGM in 2027, taking up office as Trustee and Treasurer 2027/2028.)


 

Election results

The advisory ballot for Council, conducted by Civica Election Services, closed on 31 March 2026. The turnout was 12.8% with a total of 1,568 valid votes cast.  

Dr Caroline Gill has been elected as the new Vice-President Foreign and External Affairs. She will also take on the role of EDI Council Champion. 

Dr Paul Winrow has been elected as Treasurer-Elect to succeed Dr Keith Myers as Treasurer following the AGM in 2027. 

We would like to extend our utmost thanks to Council members due to stand down at the AGM: Prof Jon Gluyas (President), Prof Mark Anderson, Dr Anna Bird, Prof Sian Davies-Vollum, Dr David Giles, Martin Griffin, Dr Michael Kehinde (Vice-President, Foreign and External Affairs), Ben Lepley and Liz Withington.

Join the awards ceremony and senior medallist talks 

The formal presentation ceremony for the Geological Society’s 2026 Medals, Awards and Funds will be held on President’s Day on 17 June 2026 at Burlington House and streamed online. The ceremony will also highlight awards by our journals, Specialist and Regional groups. 

14:00 (GMT+1): Presentation ceremony commences. 

15:30–17:30 (GMT+1): Talks by the four senior medallists (with the final talk by the Wollaston Medallist).
