Would you consider serving as a trustee (Council Member) of the Geological Society?
The Society is committed to a diverse and inclusive Council and is keen to see nominations from all areas of our community, including from under-represented groups.
A brief outline of the trustee role and the time commitment involved is included below and more information is available on our website.

Serving on Council
Council is comprised of 23 members who serve as the Society’s trustees.
Trustees have collective responsibility for overseeing the Society’s purpose, values, vision, and strategy. They make the big strategic decisions and make sure we are conducting the Society’s purposes for the public benefit, acting in the charity’s best interests, managing our resources responsibly, being accountable, and acting in accordance with the rules.
Council meets five times a year, usually on a Wednesday afternoon between 14:00-17:00. Most meetings are virtual and some are hybrid. In addition, there is a one-day strategy meeting, normally held in late September.
Council members are invited to serve on one Standing Committee (External Relations, Finance & Planning, Professional, Publications & Information, and Science). Standing Committees generally meet three to four times a year and mostly virtually. Occasionally, a Council member may be invited to join other committees or working groups. The typical time commitment is eight to ten days annually for Council members who do not hold an Officer role.

The Fellowship vote for Council members through a ballot held each year, usually in March. The voting outcome is approved formally at the Annual General Meeting in June.
For 2025-2026 elections nominations will close 23:59 on Monday 13 January 2025
