Off the Rails
Join us for our groundbreaking new research seminar series, Climate and Ecology: Off the Rails
The study of Earth’s climate and ecology provides crucial insights into the functioning of the natural world and the impacts human activities have upon it. Understanding both is essential for developing current and future strategies to mitigate climate change, conserve biodiversity, and ensure the health and sustainability of Earth’s ecosystems for future generations.
Off the Rails is a series of regional events taking place around the UK, co-hosted by the Society and various universities. The seminar series kicked off in Plymouth in October, before heading to Aberystwyth in November. The next event will take place in Liverpool in December, followed by Glasgow, Durham, and Birmingham in 2025. Each seminar features topical research by a local expert in their field, followed by panel discussions, and covers topics including climate impacts on the world’s ocean, land and atmosphere. The seminars are free and hybrid, with each session livestreamed online.
Off the Rails will culminate in a flagship hybrid conference at Burlington House on 8-9 September 2025.
The meeting will serve as a platform to unite geoscientists, ecologists, conservationists, and industry professionals to discuss the impact of climate change on Earth’s ecosystems and develop mitigation strategies.
