G3 Conference: Future Geohazards

Natural hazards are increasingly visible through media and the windows of our homes, with their far-reaching impacts set to affect every aspect of society through the rest of the century and beyond. As geoscientists we engage with these issues on a regular basis, and the Geological Society’s Geohazards, Geoengineering and Georesilience (G3) Theme is a dedicated scientific forum to explore their occurrence, impact, societal resilience and risk management. The upcoming G3 conference Future Geohazards: Assessing the Impact of the Climate Crisis (4–5 June 2025) aims to connect key players within the hazard research and mitigation communities to support geohazard and disaster risk reduction.

This is a critical time for society and hazards as we attempt to transition to a zero-carbon world (with the associated engineering and cultural shifts that this entails) at the same time as our climate is changing. From a G3 perspective, this gives us complex relationships to consider: first, we need to build new and adapt existing infrastructure to be net-zero compatible and climate resilient; second, we may bring solutions into geographical areas where we have less experience and discover threats we had not predicted; and finally, the changing climate may alter the occurrence and magnitude of hazards. We hope you will join us for these vital discussions.
