Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Geological Society. By contributing their time, expertise, and enthusiasm across a remarkably wide range of activities, our volunteers keep this organisation thriving.

Likewise, volunteers are vital to the success of this magazine. Geoscientist’s Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Advisory Panel maintain high standards and provide recommendations that help shape the publication’s direction.

And the magazine would not exist without our authors, who so generously write the terrific content we publish, motivated by the wish to communicate important issues and spark discussion amongst professionals, students, and the wider public alike. In this edition, we cover an assortment of topics, from planetary geoscience, space exploration, and technology (pages 14, 38 & 58) to creative teaching methods (p. 10), and from digital geoscience and AI (pages 12 & 22) to geoscience literature and craftsmanship (pages 30, 36 & 42).

Volunteer a few minutes of your time to shape the future of Geoscientist

To ensure Geoscientist remains dynamic and relevant, we welcome contributions from all in our community, from students and researchers working on cutting-edge topics, to industry professionals putting geoscience into practice, or those with a passion for geoscience communication, education or policy.

While Geoscientist is already valued by the community and recently won two ‘Highly Commended’ awards in recognition of its quality and impact (p. 6), we want to keep improving. To achieve this, we encourage you not only to submit articles but also to participate in our readership survey (p. 7). It’s been eight years since our last survey and so much has changed – with Geoscientist magazine and the publishing landscape more broadly. This is your opportunity to let us know what you feel we’re getting right and would like to see more of, as well as where we might be missing the mark or could potentially focus more efforts.

While all Fellows receive a free print copy of Geoscientist as part of their membership, Fellows can opt out of print. If you’ve recently made the switch to reading our articles digitally, how are you finding it? And are you enjoying our other digital content, such as our podcasts and videos? The survey takes less than ten minutes to complete and is open until the end of this month.

By volunteering a few minutes of your time now, you can help shape the future of Geoscientist and ensure the magazine continues to reflect the evolving interests and needs of our diverse, global audience.
