Explore the Far Side of the Moon
This book sends the reader on a mission to explore the far side of the Moon! At my school, we learn about plants and animals, so this space book is a very informative and interesting way for me to learn something new! The book introduces many topics, including how astronauts cook and go to the toilet, how they lift off and land the spacecraft, and what the different crew members do onboard.
My favourite facts from the book are that astronauts’ wee gets recycled into precious drinking water and that they have a space gym so the astronauts don’t lose their strength. I loved the part where the author told us about what astronauts have to wear to keep their body temperature regular and how they could grow plants in lunar greenhouses.
Explore the Far Side of the Moon made me more curious about space and it encourages me to ask questions because space is so large. In a future book, I would like to know more about other planets you can travel to and other craters on the Moon, because the book only talks about the Shackleton Crater.
I liked this book because it has lots of diagrams and when I didn’t understand a word there was a glossary at the back to help me. I think it will mostly be read by younger children (3-8), but some of the words and sentences are in a smaller font, which could be hard for younger children to read. Also, the theme is a bit young for older readers (9+). But I think children should read this book because it educates you about space and the Moon in a fun way!
